Backstory:
🍀 Mathias grew up in Sharlayan with his mothers, older brother, and the occasional but influential visit from his grandmother. Born with a passion for the arts, Mattie's desire for learning quickly shaped into something that his headmasters would describe as "frivolous dreaming." He loves music and poetry and believes that beauty shouldn't need to have a practical purpose to be admired for its own sake. But, as his family were respected researchers in their fields something had to be done with the black sheep and so his education fast laned him into the Gleaners Corp. While his monthly stipend is small, and little actual Gleaning is expected of him by his superiors, he does happily accept the opportunity to collect cultural folklore, poetry and ballads to send home to be archived.🍀 Eventually, he met Lady Rarmae Taleweaver, a recruiter for The Forum, who became something of a role model to the young man. Feeling as though their goals would often intersect, Mathias follows Lady Rarmae along on her travels. Serving as her student, protector and, more often than not... personal servant.

HOOKS:

🍀 Call it dramatic, but Mattie is certain he can and will wither up and die from understimulation. He cannot bear boredom's stagnation. As such he is someone who flits about from place to place to fulfill his tasks, be it Gleaning, following up on some research, or accompanying his mentor, Lady Rarmae Taleweaver, in her work.🍀 An eternal student. Academia wasn't the perfect setting for Mattie, but that does not mean he is opposed to learning. Rather, he simply flourishes in the kinetic. Libraries, silent and imperious, teach him little. Rather he hungers to learn through his own experiences. Happy to try any occupation anyone is willing to tutor him in for the sheer thrill of experiencing the New. He's currently studying aetherology under Lady Rarmae Taleweaver but he doesn't mind frequent breaks from his studies to try anything out. If you have something to teach, he wants to learn.🍀 He is an idealist, desperate to get the greater world to see the value that music, poetry and the arts serve in nourishing the soul. His overall goal isn't entirely about changing the entire world, but about not letting the world change him or his ideals while helping Sharlayan become a more creative culture.🍀 In calmer times he still prefers to be the life of the party; playing his ukulele, singing, cracking vulgar jokes and otherwise doing everything in his power to rip belly laughs out of anyone unfortunate enough to spend time with him for more than five minutes.🍀 At only 20 years old Mattie is very young still. His aging has only JUST slowed down. He's carrying with him an insecurity about still being seen as a 'boy' rather than a 'man.' This has been used to goad him into making rash decisions that have often escalated into fights that he hasn't always won. He hates being spoken down to or coddled or treated like he's being relegated to the proverbial 'kids table' during important or deep conversation. He is a grown man and would like to be given the respect becoming of a young adult and opportunity to learn what manhood is going to mean for him.
